United States - State Secretary for European and Eurasian affairs, Philip Gordon said, "Russia's policy towards Georgia is among those issues, that is contrary to United States interests and Washington in this regard has always been openly expressing its position."
This statement was made by Philip Gordon in Washington at political center.
As he said: “Last December, the reaction of United States was quite principal during State Duma Elections, but then the Russian government did not like it”.
In this regard, Gordon also talked about the issue of abolishment of Jackson-Venik Amendment, and noted that, first of all “American Businessmen will benefit out of it.”
In addition he said, that “Jackson-Venik Amendment contradicts with World Trade Organization Charter, whose member Russia will become soon.”
The U.S. Congress has postponed discussion of this issue for several months and it will continue to discuss it once Russia will become WTO officially member.
Earlier, White House considered necessary to abolish Jackson-Venik Amendment, signed during “Cold War”, before Russia becomes WTO member.
