U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs and Eurasia Philip Gordon said, "The United States will continue its financial support of democracy in Russia."
"Human rights and democracy support remains our top priority. Since Barack Obama became president in 2009, the United States administration has spent 200 million dollars to support the Russian Federation in human rights and democracy. The United States continues funding the Russian non-governmental organizations, and 50 million US dollar fund will be established on the Congress meeting", - said in a speech in Washington Assistant Secretary of State.
According to him, “After the new president's inauguration, Washington considers optimistic relations between two countries and first of all it will be in economy and trade issues."
At the same time, Gordon said, "Among the questions, which can lead to disputes between countries, are Georgia and human rights."
